Presentation
One of the most important activities for the speaking and listening class is presentation, for presentation trains English learners the abilities of expressing themselves fluently, transmitting ideas clearly, showing body language properly, listening to speakers attentively and taking notes effectively. Each of my classmates has had two presentations so far in this term. The first presentation was just commonplace; however, the second presentation was exciting and interesting because the class room was fully equipped with all kinds of device that were used to track and record every detail of each person’s presentation. It was the first time for some of us to face the lens directly; therefore, somehow we appeared unnaturally. As a matter of fact, everybody paid so much attention to his or her presentation that we acted differently from how we usually did. We did not realize those differences until we watched our records on TV. It is really funny to look back upon our body language. Where to place hands and feet and how to use hands and feet in the presentation become problems. Should we put hands in the pockets, relax hands at our sides, just hold pieces of paper, or scratch hair, ear, or nose all the time? Should we incline towards one side, dance with our feet, or just stand straightly? In my opinion, there is not an unchangeable body language that can be perfect in a presentation; however, focusing on displaying varying gesture too much makes audience feel uncomfortable. The best method to present maybe just act as naturally as we do in the ordinary days, for usually the natural way shows most beautiful.
