Walking in a heavy fall of snow.

Staying at home for nearly two days, I decided to go out and had a walk although snow was still falling. After putting on thick clothes, hat, and gloves, I went outside. I thought these thick clothes could prevent me from the cold weather. However, I was wrong. The cold wind blowing snow fluttering in the sky was freezing. I felt cold air go through my clothes; nevertheless, I didn’t go back, for I saw footprints stepped on the ground not long ago. I looked around and witnessed a man making a snowman. I, shivering, could not stop in one place for long. I started to walk again. Just when passing a crossing, I noticed a jeep stop working. The driver trying to restart the jeep wondered why that could happen. As soon as going out of the jeep, he knew the reason. I continued to walk. Two magpies, fluttering their wings, flew across my sight. Although curious, I had to walk forward. I told God the unfair thing that men dressing thick clothes shivered in the cold wind, whereas magpies wearing no clothes flew freely and fearlessly in the sky. God counterclaimed that men could live in warm house while magpies had to suffer the cold wind. Finally I arrived my destination--co-op. It was warm inside the company. I didn’t shiver anymore and start to shop.

My favorite computer game

My favorite computer game is chess. When I am playing chess with others on the Internet, I totally immerse myself in the game and forget everything else. Chess is so fascinating to me because chess embodies many philosophies of real life.

First, chess symbolizes to march forward towards your goals. If I am playing chess, it is obvious that I will dedicate to killing the emperor of my opponent. Therefore, all of my soldiers should aim at the goal and advance courageously

However, sometimes marching forward is not smooth. At that point, defending well is necessary, for the enemies are not so stupid that they won’t place any obstacle before your soldiers. They usually design lots of traps for your soldiers. Furthermore, they are peeping at your royal palace all the time. They could attack at any time, so removing interior weaknesses and strengthen the power of your kingdom in advance are guarantees of final success. As somebody once said that defending well equaled to attacking.

Patience is imperative to play chess well. You can imagine how hard for competitors to decide just one movement of the piece when competitors are trapped into stalemate, because a small neglect is enough to lead to the failure of the whole competition. Under that circumstance, it is a good test of competitors’ capability of preciseness of reaction and endurance.

I like chess because chess embodies life philosophies that include marching towards your goals, strengthening the power of yourself in advance, and being patient all the time. All of these are the keys to success.

My high school
I open my album today, and I see the group pictures of graduating classes in 2006 that lead me to recall my high school. My high school is Da Qing experimental school. The area of our school is not smaller than that of U of C. There are several main buildings that locate on campus. They are the teaching building, the experimental building, dormitory, gym, and the dinning hall. The teaching building is the biggest building. It has 11 floors. The lowest 4 floors are for classrooms. My grade has 30 classes, so you can imagine how many classroom there are in the teaching building. In the center of the teaching building, there is a bright and broad hall. The sunshine goes through the glass roof and lights every corner of the hall. Many students enjoy communicating with each other while they are entertaining themselves with the warmth and brightness of the hall. The teaching building, the dinning hall, and the dormitory are three places to which I go necessarily every day. Where I appreciate most, however, is our playground, for there are 32 basketball backboards and a modern 400 meters lap. There is not a day that I don’t exercise there, and so do my classmates.

All of us have ten classes every day except Sunday. Every class lasts 40 minutes. Then there will be a 10 minutes break before the next class starts. I usually take advantage of the break time to have a walk. There are 60 students in our class. The classroom seems so small. Our seats are squeezed together tightly. My condition is a little better, for I sit in the back row that contains the least students of all the rows. We study 6 different kinds of main courses totally. All of these courses are in our everyday schedule; therefore, we are usually left with piles of assignments after the day classes. We do our assignments in the night classes from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm. I return to the dormitory at 10:30. Some of the aspiring students may study till late night. However, not all the students who achieve high marks study till the late night. They must own some strategic methods of studying and study efficiently.

The motto of our school is excavating every student’s potentiality that can be an incomparably huge power that is buried deeply. Every Monday our headmaster announces the school motto in his summary of last week when the ritual of raising national flag and singing national song is finished. I cannot forget the grand scene that all students stand in straight lines and rows listening to the headmaster’s speech. My high school enriches my mind with abundant useful knowledge and tells me much of the philosophy of life. I miss my high school much.

Presentation

One of the most important activities for the speaking and listening class is presentation, for presentation trains English learners the abilities of expressing themselves fluently, transmitting ideas clearly, showing body language properly, listening to speakers attentively and taking notes effectively. Each of my classmates has had two presentations so far in this term. The first presentation was just commonplace; however, the second presentation was exciting and interesting because the class room was fully equipped with all kinds of device that were used to track and record every detail of each person’s presentation. It was the first time for some of us to face the lens directly; therefore, somehow we appeared unnaturally. As a matter of fact, everybody paid so much attention to his or her presentation that we acted differently from how we usually did. We did not realize those differences until we watched our records on TV. It is really funny to look back upon our body language. Where to place hands and feet and how to use hands and feet in the presentation become problems. Should we put hands in the pockets, relax hands at our sides, just hold pieces of paper, or scratch hair, ear, or nose all the time? Should we incline towards one side, dance with our feet, or just stand straightly? In my opinion, there is not an unchangeable body language that can be perfect in a presentation; however, focusing on displaying varying gesture too much makes audience feel uncomfortable. The best method to present maybe just act as naturally as we do in the ordinary days, for usually the natural way shows most beautiful.

That English is not advanced results in Chinese leaning English hard.

Chinese has a history of five thousand years, whereas English is born in less than one thousand years; therefore, it is inevitable that English has some disadvantage when it compares with Chinese. The disadvantage of English restricts people to use English flexibly. Not only Chinese but also native English speakers must deliberate for a long time and revise again and again before finally compose a satisfactory essay. The disadvantage of English is the reason why Chinese learn English hard.

That English is not advanced leads to countless long and fixed English phrases. Since poor English words are not able to transmit exact and full meanings to readers, some of the single words are bound up to form phrases; furthermore; transitions and infinitives are added to sentences. Long and fixed English phrases are complemented in English because of the disadvantage of English.

That English is not advanced results in a great many confusing tenses. In English paragraphs, word tenses constantly change from one to another while there is not any tense for Chinese words. That is because English is not so advanced that it can describe matters without the help of tenses. People must use different tenses to describe the things that happen in the different time. A great many of confusing word tense is the result of English being not advanced.

That English is not advanced results in complex sentence structure. Due to the fact that there are not enough narrative and descriptive adjectives in English, people have to invent adjective clause as a supplement of adjectives. For another example, because of the special position in a sentence, a shout sentence has to be changed into the noun form so as to form a noun clause. English is not advanced; as a consequence, there are complex sentence structures that are used in English.

Long and fixed phrases, confusing word tense, and complex sentence structures result from the fact that English is not advanced. These disadvantage results in Chinese learning English hard, for Chinese, who are used to the superior language, are difficult to adapt to the inferior and complex one. Maybe as years passing by, English will evolve into a language that is as superior as Chinese and become easier for Chinese to learn.

I am aware that it is an offense to native English speakers and hereby certify that all statements in this paragraph are not real. As a matter of fact, English is another kind of beautiful language besides Chinese. Although it is hard for writers to write English essays, it is easy for readers to understand them.
